Meaning and Purpose:
A storyboard is a non-essential preproduction process that allows a cinematographer (or director) to envision the movie, this is done through the production of scenes and a breakdown of each shot the camera will make during this process. It is important for cinematographers to have this information down however some choose to simply use a shotlist. I enjoy the process of storyboarding and believe it to be a helpful guide to camera movement and directing actors on things such as their specific actions and in situations where an actor is told how far to walk if they are moving in a scene.
Storyboarding:
Shotlist
We also compiled a list of the shots within the film, describing the action, the location, and additional information such as the time of day and whether the shot is taken inside or outside. The shotlist is another important piece of documentation that allows the director and crew to now exactly what is being shot, from what angle and how the shot will be achieved.
