Meaning and Purpose:
A risk assessment is essential in the planning of a film, not just to ensure that the proper precautions are taken but also for legal reasons, a film company is highly liable for accidents unless it is covered in insurance (this is why it is difficult for under 18 or 21 year olds to get jobs in film, due to the fact that the insurance simply won't cover an accident by someone under those ages). Conducting a risk assessment shows that the company has thought of the risk involved with their locations and has taken steps to ensuring the risk is minimal. We conducted a risk assessment for our production to ensure the actors didn't hurt themselves as well as ensure all precautions had been taken in case of an accident.
